nciku Video Notes

We just launched the new feature “Video Notes” which can be found in the search result page of the Chinese words in the list provided. Video Notes are short animations designed to explain what differentiates Chinese words which have the same or very similar meanings in English. Click the links in the table below to go to entries with Video Notes attached.

    上升(increase slowly), 提高(ti has the connotation of someone intentionally raising something), 上涨(zhang means to expand or inflate), 增长(growth), 放大 (to make a picture bigger/zooming in).
    So the only similar words are 上升 and 提高 because they translate to the same english word.
    减少(decreasing something that can be seen and counted in numbers), 下降(descend/ decrease in something that cannot be seen, like temperature), 降低(from what I know, this is the same as the previous word except it specifies that the end result is low from “di”. Also, 下降, like the word descend, can mean a slow decrease) , 缩小(zoom out)

    Well this’s a really great way to better understand chinese,

    But the most intresting thing is,

    Do you have a complete downloadable Video Notes, so we could download all these video notes onto the MacBook computer or onto the iPhone so we can carry it around to learn.
