- Are there any system requirements for nciku?

The bare minimum requirements for using nciku are:
- an internet connection
- a web browser
- Chinese language support
- If your OS is Windows 2000 or XP (probably Vista too), the way to install Chinese characters is to go to the Control Panel then go to ‘regional and language options’ go to the ‘languages’ tab and tick ‘install files for East Asian languages’ then say OK or Apply. You might have to have your Windows install CD, depending on the version of your OS and you might have to restart your computer.
- In case you’re using an older Apple Mac (Chinese characters have been part of the default install since a few years ago, but older versions needed to install them separately): click here
- Flash (for some features)
- You can install the newest version of Flash from the Adobe Flash Player site: Follow the link to the Player Download Center and click on the enormous yellow “Agree and install now” button. Then you run the installer and it will update your flash version.
- What do I do if I find a bug on nciku?

Step 1
Make sure you are on nciku.com, and not nciku.cn or nciku.com.tw. Not all the features are present in all nciku sites. Please read Clarifying the difference of the nciku domain separation from our Blog page.Step 2
Refresh the page to make sure it isn’t a temporary glitch. If you see an error message on the page, please click on the icon and take a screen capture. It’s usually at the bottom left on Internet Explorer. If you often encounter the same problem, please consider sending an email to help (at) nciku.com to let us know (see Step 4).

- Do I need to download any software?
- nciku can work with no major problem on most computers. But Adobe Flash is necessary to use certain features such as the handwriting tool and stroke order videos.
- Why doesn’t the handwriting work with my Mac?
- You might be using an old version of Safari. nciku works properly with Safari 3.0 and above.
- Are all browsers and operating systems supported?
- nciku has been tested by us on Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari; and on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac. Although there are some known bugs with all combinations of browser and operating system, we cannot guarantee the quality of your nciku experience when using browsers or operation systems other than those listed.
- Why is the handwriting tool so slow?
- The handwriting tool can be affected by a slow internet connection.
- Why do my Q&A appear in the wrong area?
- Your default Q&A board depends on your learning language. If you have your learning language set to English, your questions will appear on the “Learning English” board and vice-versa. You can find out how to change your learning language here.
- Who is nciku_edu?
- nciku_edu is the account used by the nciku team which makes content like conversations, nciku notes, and vocab lists for the entire nciku community.
